Install
One command, then bio is on your path.
Debian and Ubuntu
sudo curl -fsSL https://sudo.bio/apt/sudobio.gpg -o /usr/share/keyrings/sudobio.gpg echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/sudobio.gpg] https://sudo.bio/apt stable main" \ | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/sudobio.list sudo apt update && sudo apt install bio
The package carries its own interpreter and dependencies under
/usr/lib/sudobio, so it cannot collide with your system Python or with
whatever an instrument vendor has pinned. Nothing after this line wants
sudo: a repository owned by root is a repository its owner cannot write to.
Then
bio serve # this interface, on your own machine bio mcp # the same tools, to your agent, over MCP bio version
Repositories live in ~/.local/share/sudobio unless
SUDOBIO_DATA says otherwise.
Point an agent at it
Every tool behind the box on the front page is also an MCP tool, so Claude, Cursor or anything else that speaks the protocol can design a primer, plan an assembly, write the robot code and commit the result inside whatever conversation you were already having.
Claude Code:
claude mcp add sudo.bio -- bio mcp
Claude Desktop, or any other client — add to its config:
{
"mcpServers": {
"sudo.bio": {
"command": "bio",
"args": [
"mcp"
]
}
}
}

Python 3.12, a venv, nothing else. Every dependency is pure Python with a wheel on PyPI, so there is no compiler, no conda and no container in the way.
python3.12 -m venv .venv && source .venv/bin/activate pip install -e '.[dev]' bio serve --reload
